About the Global Biodiversity Consortium

The GBC brings together research institutions, NGOs, and restoration networks to accelerate the transition from ecological knowledge to global solutions.

Branch Institute — The Coordination and Research Hub

The Branch Institute (Institute for Biodiversity Research Action for Nature, Climate, and Humanity) leads the scientific foundation of the GBC. Built on the legacy of the Crowther Lab, Branch connects researchers across universities and institutions, advancing collaborative ecological research and high-impact publications. It also serves as the coordination hub for the Consortium—aligning global partners, fostering open science, and ensuring that discoveries are translated into tools, policy, and action.

SEED Biodiversity Index — The Global Metric for Nature

The SEED Biodiversity Index provides a globally standardized, high-resolution measure of the state of nature for every terrestrial location on Earth. By combining ecological data, field observations, and advanced modeling, SEED offers the first holistic framework for assessing biodiversity potential and resilience. This shared metric enables consistent monitoring, comparison, and prioritization of restoration and conservation efforts worldwide.

Restor — The Platform for Nature Stewardship

Restor is a global geospatial platform that connects science and people. It supports local nature stewards, communities, and organizations by offering open access to biodiversity data, restoration insights, and visualization tools. By linking ecological science with on-the-ground action, Restor enhances decision-making and accelerates ecosystem conservation and restoration across the planet.
